SHARP to unveils full-screen smartphone

In fact, the 1912-founded Japanese company acquired by Taiwanese contract manufacturer Foxconn for $3.5 billion just previous year claims it launched the world's "first-ever full screen smartphone" back in 2013.

Sharps newest full-screen smartphone is going to be officially unveiled on August 8 for a release to the Chinese market on August 14. At the event, Sharp will be announcing the pricing details and availability of its premium bezel-less smartphone, the Sharp Aquos S2. Dr. Luo Zhongsheng, CEO of SHARP/InFocus Mobile, said in a statement. The smartphone is expected to have the remaining space for housing the front camera.

The company claims that the Aquos S2 uses FFD (Free Form Display) technology that enables the manufacturer to make small holes precisely into the screen for front camera and receiver to offer great user experience of best audio quality and front camera experience.

It must be noted that the Mi Mix has a screen-to-body ratio of around 90 percent.

Other phone specifications will be revealed at the upcoming global launch conference in Beijing on Tuesday. As per Weibo listing, the Sharp Aquos S2 will have a 5.5-inch Ultra-HD 4K display with a screen resolution of 2160 x 3840 pixels. Since 2013, Sharp has made a total of 28 full-screen smartphones, mostly in markets outside of the US.

In a press release issued late yesterday, Sharp said that the Aquos S2 will arrive with an 84.95% screen-to-body ratio, beating the Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8 Plus (83.6% and 84% respectively) and the Xiaomi Mi Mix (83.6%) - some of the more popular bezel-less devices available right now.

But this is far from Sharp's first bezel-slaying rodeo.
