Samsung launches new smartphone, adds extra feature for bikers

The handset features a 'S Bike mode' that has been developed by the India team. Once activated, callers are notified using an automated answering machine that the user is riding and cannot take the call.

South Korean tech giant Samsung today launched a new smartphone -- Galaxy J3 -- priced at Rs 8,990, designed specifically for bike riders in India.

Interestingly, 70 percent of Samsung India's entry-level consumers are two-wheeler users.

The handset features a 'S Bike mode' that has been developed by the India team. Once activated, callers are notified using an automated answering machine that the user is riding and cannot take the call.

The caller can choose to press 1 to express urgency to speak to the biker. The rider will have to come to a complete halt to answer the call, thereby ensuring his safety.

"We are working on bringing in meaningful innovations that make people's lives better. While studying the consumers' phone usage behaviour, we realised that incoming calls are a major distraction to bikers.

"About 70 percent of our users in India are two-wheeler users...This feature is our effort to promote responsible riding," Samsung India Senior Vice President Asim Warsi said.

He added that 20,000 man hours went into developing the NFC-enabled feature that is integrated into the hardware of the new handset.

"We have received interest from other emerging countries and will look at the possibility of taking it to these markets. Also, we are exploring extending this to our other mass and mid-segment 4G devices in India," Samsung India Director Mobile business Manu Sharma said.

The handset will be available exclusively on eCommerce platform, Snapdeal.

The J3 features a 5-inch display, 1.5 GHz quad core processor, 1.5GB RAM and 8GB memory (expandable upto 128GB).

It also features 8MP rear and 5MP front camera as well as 2,600 mAh battery.

Sharma said the J series has done extremely well for the company and has "changed the landscape", especially with its ultra data saving feature.

"The J series accounts for about 20 percent of the industry's smartphone sales in value terms already as per syndicated industry reports," he added but declined to comment on how significant is the contribution to the company's own sales.

Apart from J3, Samsung has 3 4G devices (J2, J5 and J7) and 2 3G devices in its portfolio its J series.

Nintendo's First Smartphone Game, Miitomo, Has Arrived Worldwide

Following its launch earlier this month in Japan, Nintendo's first smartphone game, Miitomo, has landed in the west, right on schedule. You can grab the free game right now from iTunes and Google Play.

Miitomo was a big hit in Japan, having reached 1 million downloads in its first three days. It also climbed to the No. 1 spot for free apps on the App Store and Google Play. Nintendo will be hoping it can repeat that success for its western debut.

"With Miitomo, Nintendo takes its first step into the world of smart devices," Nintendo marketing executive Scott Moffitt said in a statement. "Miitomo brings the special Nintendo charm and polish that people around the world love to an entirely new format and audience."

Miitomo is more of an app than a game per se. Developed in partnership with DeNA, the app allows users to create and customize a Mii character, then sync up with others, much like the Mii functionality on Wii and Wii U. Users can then link their Facebook and Twitter accounts to Miitomo to find friends to interact with.

The app also lets you create "Miifotos." For these, you can place Mii characters in images from a smartphone's image gallery. You can click through the image gallery below to see some examples that Nintendo provided. These images can then be shared on social media sites.

Although Miitomo is free to download, it also has an in-game shop where extra clothing and items can be purchased with Miitomo coins. Real-world money can be used to purchase Miitomo Coins, or they can be eared via gameplay.

Check out the video above to see an overview for Miitomo. The new My Nintendo loyalty/rewards program also launches today, March 31.

Miitomo is just the first of Nintendo's smartphone games. Another upcoming smartphone game "will not be a communication app" like Miitomo, but instead a title that features a well-known Nintendo character--maybe Mario?

A total of five smartphone games from Nintendo are due to launch by 2017. These games, all of which will be free, are being produced under the guidance of longtime Mario Kart producer Hideki Konno.

Samsung to launch a new smartphone on March 31 in India

Following numerous rumors Galaxy J5 and J7 have at last obtained official status on Samsung China's website.

The Galaxy J3 (2016) comes with a 5-inch HD Super AMOLED display with a 1280 x 720 pixels resolution and a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 410 processor with 1.5GB RAM.

However, the display in Galaxy J5 is larger at 5.2-inches compared to the 5-inch display in Galaxy J5 launched past year.

Samsung announced the availability of the all new Galaxy TabPro S. Powered by a 6th Gen Intel Core m processor, the 2 in 1 device was created specifically for people on the go and mobile professionals. Speaking of camera configuration, there is a cool 13-megapixel rear-facing sensor, in addition to a 5-megapixel front-facing shooter. It comes with 8GB on-board storage which can be further expanded up to 128GB using MicroSD Card. Both the J5 (2016) and J7 (2016) also offer goodies like dual SIM slots, NFC, and HD Voice. Samsung Galaxy TabPro S has only two physical ports situa ted on the bottom right in landscape orientation.

But several brokerages on Wednesday upgraded first-quarter forecasts for what is still the world's top smartphone maker, citing a strong start for the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge premium phones that were launched earlier this month.

Samsung Galaxy S7 is getting some insane reviews having shipped out the units from the preorder in some areas already and it's about time we asked ourselves a big question.

The active variants of the galaxy flagships add more ruggedness to the device and we hope the same from the S7 Active. This device features a 3,300mAh battery, comes in white, gold, rose gold and black colours, weighs 170 grams, and measures 7.8mm in thickness. The Honor Holly 2 Plus also has SmartPower 3.0 technology which saves over 30 per cent of energy and it allows the phone to run for 20 hours with just 10 per cent battery!

A year ago marked the end of Samsung's obsession with plastic, with most of its premium m odels ditching the polycarbonate for a combination of metal and glass.

Gionee revives flip-phones with the new W909

If you once owned a prestigious flip phone by companies like the famous "Motorolla" and wish they were back, your prayers have been answered. Many of you might call the design outdated, but there are people out there who loved the whole concept. They are still a thing in many Asian markets too.

The Chinese smartphone company 'Gionee' has just launched an updated version of your favorite flip design – yes, it is an Android powered smartphone. The innovative flip phone's amazing specs is likely pose a threat to the Samsung SM-W2016.

The Gionee W909 offers dual LCD displays of 4.4 inches and 720p resolution. It is fitted with a MediaTek Helio P10 chipset, octa core processor and an impressive 4 GB of RAM. What's even better is the ample internal storage of 64 GB and a microSD slot if you need more.

W909 also features a 16 MP back camera and a 5 MP front one. The battery capacity of 2,530 mAH isn't bad either. The phone's look is pretty classy too with it's slim bezels and faux leather back cover. One downside is that the phone only supports Android 5.1 Lollipop and not Marshmallow.

Nintendo's first smartphone game is coming to the USA this week

"With Miitomo, Nintendo takes its first step into the world of smart devices", said Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America's Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing in a press release.

To sum it up: Nintendo is releasing Miitomo on March 31 in the U.S. and several other countries. On that day, users with an iPhone, iPod Touch or a device running Google's Android operating system can expect to be able to download the app from the iTunes or Google Play Stores.

Those who create their account and preregister before the aforementioned date will get Platinum Points for the new My Nintendo rewards program which launches simultaneously with Miitomo.

Coinciding with My Nintendo and Miitomo, Nintendo will re-launch their online store to allow over 2,000 games to be directly downloaded to your console of choice (3DS, Wii U).

You may have been a little disappointed when Nintendo launched Miitomo, its first mobile game, only in Japan.

Though it's a messaging app, Miitomo connects with the entire Nintendo ecosystem, even if it doesn't appear to compliment Nintendo's other offerings.

Both the app and the My Nintendo service will use the new Nintendo Accounts. Though free to download, it does arrive with some in-app purchases, most of which pertain to decorating and accessorizing the Mii avatar.

Indeed. Indeed. It's a kind of game-ified social network starring Nintendo's Mii avatars. Conversations are driven by questions that you send to another friend's Mii character. PC Advisor readers had been hoping to see Super Mario, Zelda or Pokemon, but Nintendo has instead introduced Miitomo, which lets you create Mii characters like those found on the Wii and use them to interact with friends. Later in the year, Nintendo is expected to launch a more substantial mobile experience with PokƩmon GO.

Miitomo is the first in a line of Nintendo experiences coming to mobiles. Releasing Nintendo property games on non-Nintendo platforms is a relatively unusual move for the company, and marks a shift in market strategy.

When you first start Miitomo, it's immediately recognizable as a Nintendo title.

Samsung to launch new smartphone to 'change the way users ride'

Samsung to launch new smartphone to 'change the way users ride'

It's unclear whether or not Samsung will make these smartphones available in other countries, but considering the Galaxy J3 (2106) is already selling in the United States, there's a high chance they will be rolled out globally.

Samsung has listed the 2016 versions of its Galaxy J5 and Galaxy J7 smartphones on its website in China.

There is a 13MP camera on the back and a 5MP front-facing camera. Internal storage is limited to 16GB, however, it can be expanded up to 128GB via a MicroSD card. While it is good to note that the specs of the S7 will also be ported onto an Active range by Samsung Electronics (OTCMKTS:SSNLF), it is important to note that this will be the first Samsung smartphone in the past couple of years which does not give users a clear enough reason to upgrade.

Samsung Galaxy J5 (2016) is the lower-end smartphone of the duo, bringing a 5.2-inch Super AMOLED screen with 720 x 1280 pixels resolution and a pixel density of 284 ppi, while being underpinned by an unnamed processor with four cores clocked at 1.2 GHz. Both smartphones come with dual SIM support and feature similar designs but with different hardware. All these are kept alive by a pretty big 3,100 mAh battery which should be enough for two days of moderate usage. It's available in sand gold, silver/white and metallic pink and comes equipped with a 5.5-inch full HD Super AMOLED display as well as a large 3,300mAh battery. The smartphone also integrates 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of native storage, and support for microSD cards up to 128 GB. It comes with a 5-megapixel camera on the rear with LED flash and autofocus, along with a 2-megapixel camera on the front. Measuring 151.7 x 76 x 7.8mm and weighing in at 170g, the Galaxy J7 (2016) offers LTE connectivity as well as NFC capabilities.< /p>

As of now, there is no word on the pricing and availability outside China.

NintendoĆ¢€™s hit smartphone app Miitomo comes to the US this week

Tweet Share Share on Facebook Tweet Share Pin Share

Two weeks ago, we got our first look at Miitomo when Nintendo's first smartphone app launched in Japan. Called Miitomo, the app allows users to customize Mii characters like those popularized by Nintendo's Wii Sports. US smartphone owners will have a chance to make their own Miis when the free app hits the App Store and Google Play on March 31st.

As a game, Miitomo is an excuse to collect digital objects — which can be purchased with real currency — and take photos of your Mii. Miitomo asks players questions, and their answers with friends. The Verge's Sam Byford documented his impressions on the game's release in Japan:

What Miitomo does have in abundance is the sleek, appealing quirkiness that Nintendo's had a knack for ever since titles like Wii Fit and Brain Age. I wouldn't bet on it becoming the next big thing, but it's going to be a neat way for Nintendo fans to engage with the company and each other — and it might just be another notable source of revenue, too.

Within days of its release in Japan, Nintendo announced the app had been downloaded a million times. According to Bloomberg, Nintendo's stock leapt 8.2 percent in Japan, its biggest increase in over a month.

Nintendo plans to release four more apps this year, which have been described by the company as more traditional game experiences.

Orkney seals to receive marine Ć¢€˜smartphonesĆ¢€™ in new trial

    22:27 Monday 28 March 2016

ORKNEY'S harbour seals are to receive marine "smartphones" allowing scientists to track their every move, the first such initiative worldwide.

The harbour seal population is in sharp decline and the move will give researchers from the Sea Mammal Research Unit (SMRU) at the University of St Andrews data about the effect of marine policies on the seals.

These include the impact of marine renewables such as offshore and wave turbines, unexplained seal deaths and interactions with salmon fisheries.

Under the three-year Scottish Government-backed project starting next month, UK telecommunications giant Vodafone will provide the "next generation" of small lightweight marine tags which scientists will attach to fur at the back of the seals' heads.

    • READ MORE: Loch Ness to host high speed monster for world record attempt

The tags will eventually drop off when the seal moults.

The tags, which work much in the same way as smartphones, will use the company's latest machine-to-machine (M2M) technology to send information from the seal when it surfaces or beaches directly back to SMRU for analysis.

M2M technology is now a standard feature in new cars, heart monitors and smart meters, but has never been used before to monitor the well-being of marine mammals.

The SMRU study is being conducted at the request of the Scottish Government and Scottish Natural Heritage, who are concerned for the future survival of harbour seals which have declined in numbers by up to 90 per cent in some areas in and around Scotland's north and east coast, including Orkney, since 2000.

    • READ MORE: Scots professor claims cancer-causing chemical in 3G pitches

Professor John Baxter, principal marine adviser at Scottish Natural Heritage said: "This exciting, collaborative study is vital to help us to better understand the drivers of population change in Scottish harbour seals, and to evaluate the potential conservation and management options open to us."

Dr Bernie McConnell, SMRU's deputy director, said: "Marine data collected during this project on Orkney will help to assess the causes, management and mitigation options in relation to the harbour seals decline and to prioritise future research directions."

Helen Lamprell, Vodafone's UK corporate and external affairs director, said: "This project is proof collaborations between government, science and the private sector can work to improve environment policy decisions. We are delighted to be able to provide Bernie and his team with access to our technology and consultancy."

Line Messaging App Aims to Hold Ground With New Services

    March 28, 2016 12:20 p.m. ET

TOKYO—A host of new services announced last week by Line Corp., which operates Japan's dominant smartphone messaging application, reflect the company's efforts to hold its ground against bigger players like Facebook, its chief executive says.

Facing slowing growth, Line is rapidly expanding the scope of its services in a bid to bolster its user base and create new sources of revenue. It plans to launch a low-cost mobile carrier and expand its mobile payment service, for example.

"There's no question that we're facing companies that are larger, with more resources and bigger market shares than us, so we need to keep on challenging," Chief Executive Takeshi Idezawa said in an interview Monday.

He didn't rule out seeking an initial public offering but said nothing had been decided.

Line's platform already offers a variety of features including games, streaming music and online shopping. It is the primary communication tool among young people in Japan.

Owned by South Korean Internet portal operator Naver Corp., Line boasted 215 million monthly active users as of the end of last year. But it added only three million in the fourth quarter, and over half of them are in Japan, Taiwan, Thailand and Indonesia.

Since taking over a year ago, Mr. Idezawa has said Line's primary focus is in Asia—and looking for new markets where it can become No. 1. But Line isn't available in China, where it is blocked, and globally trails well behind market leader WhatsApp, which Facebook Inc. acquired in 2014 for $19 billion, and Tencent Holdings Ltd.'s WeChat. WhatsApp has more than one billion active users, and WeChat has around 700 million, most of them in China.

Line's main source of revenue—which exceeded $1 billion for the first time last year—comes from sales of games and its emoticon stickers, as well as advertising.

"User growth is slowing and it faces larger rivals overseas, s o Line needs to find new sources of income," said Hitoshi Sato, senior analyst at InfoCom Research.

Line last year scrapped a plan to hold an IPO, casting doubt on its hopes of raising the money needed to develop the app in markets outside Japan. While some analysts say Line may hold an IPO this year, Mr. Idezawa said the company was still considering its options.

"Something may move this year, but I don't know if that will be this year or the next, or whether it would be an IPO," he said.

"When the scale of a company becomes bigger and the range of services increases, it's inevitable that funding becomes an issue. So speaking in general terms, it's something all companies should consider."

During an annual conference in Tokyo last week, Line said it would launch a mobile service this summer that offered plans as cheap as ¥500 ($4.42) a month, with unlimited use of Line's chat, call and music-streaming, as well as Facebook and Twitter . TWTR -2.77 %

More Japanese companies, including e-commerce giant Rakuten Inc., 4755 2.72 % are taking aim at established Japanese communications giants by entering the mobile virtual network operator business at cheaper prices. Such service providers don't own their own infrastructure but resell capacity on wireless networks. Line said it would be using the cellular network of NTT DoCoMo, Inc., Japan's largest mobile carrier.

Mr. Idezawa said he hoped the new service would help boost Japan's smartphone penetration rate, which is at around 50%, according to Nikkei BP Consulting, Inc. "I want to increase the number of smartphone and Line users," he said. Line's aim, he said, is to become a "smart portal," a one-stop platform where smartphone users can go to satisfy everyday needs from entertainment to taxi-hailing and shopping.

The five-year old company also said it would partner with a major Japanese credit card company to expand its mobile payment service.

Serkan Toto, a mobile industry consultant based in Tokyo, said Line has to secur e its existing user base by introducing new initiatives given strong competition in many areas, including news distribution and music streaming.

"They now have to try something new, and it seems they are focusing more on what they have—a lucrative Japanese market plus Thailand and Taiwan —instead of what they could become [by expanding beyond Asia]," he said.

Galaxy Note 6 Release Rumored For July

Meanwhile, rumors are starting to circulate that the Samsung Galaxy Note 6 will carry a 6 GB of AM, along with a 4000 mAh battery. According to a legitimate source SamMobile, Samsung has also started to roll out the Android Marshmallow 6.0.1 build for the Galaxy Note 5 in Cambodia, to be done OTA (Over the Air). The sizes remain the same as Galaxy J7 will house a 5.5-inch display.

As a reminder, T-Mobile's BOGO deal will let you get a free Galaxy S7 or S7 edge when you buy one.

It seems as though Samsung may have something up their sleeves as it gets ready to introduce the next phase of their flagship smartphone, the Galaxy S7, in February at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.

The phone, much like its smaller siblings, is making use of a metal chassis, a major upgrade after the decidedly plastic perimeter used in last year's offering. A Galaxy Note model with this feature will definitely do well in the market as the device could take things into a whole new level. "We believe this product balances the best of Samsung's Galaxy Tab range with the wealth of features on the Windows 10 operating system for the most advanced 2-in-1 experience on the market".

Meanwhile, another hint that the 2016 Samsung Galaxy J5 will come out soon is that the iteration is among the devices that have already received certifications. Now, some official press renders of the mid-range smartphone have leaked online, giving us a fairly good look at what to expect from the device in terms of aesthetics.

The smartphones come with innovations in design, imaging, software functionality and connectivity with a host of other services. The rear camera will have a 13-megapixel sensor, while the front-facing camera will be of the 5-megapixel variety.

Android 6 Marshmallow doesn't support decryption, so Samsung warns that encryption can not be disabled after updating the device to Marshmallow.

OnePlus 3 Smartphone: Design, Specs and Release Date

The Chinese smartphone manufacturer OnePlus has been working on its third flagship smartphone for months now and the latest rumors suggest an April 7 release date for its latest model. There have been no updates until now about what to expect from the new mobile but a leaked AnTuTu benchmark testing has finally revealed information regarding the specifications of the upcoming OnePlus 3.

The Antutu listing shows a OnePlus 3 handset with model number A3000, featuring a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 SoC carrying a quad-core CPU and Adreno 530 graphics bundled with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of built-in storage. The in-built storage from 16GB to 32GB is a significant upgrade to its base storage since currently, OnePlus had been providing only options for 16GB and 64GB storage variants.

The 2016 flagship also is shown to be supporting a 5.5 inches Full HD screen with a screen resolution of 1080×1920 pixels. The benchmark listing suggests that OnePlus may skip a QHD display in its OnePlus 3 flagship smartphone. In terms of camera, the new phone features a 16-megapixel rear camera and 8-megapixel front camera that are significant upgrades compared to its older model. The phone comes with Android 6.0 Marshmallow onboard with Oxygen based OS covering it.

However, rumors about the new phone debuting on April 7 were denied by the company in response to earlier reports that the OnePlus 3 model was scheduled to be released in a Beijing event.

"The April 7 event is focused on the China market," the company said in a statement issued to Android Authority. "We will not be launching our next device then."

The company also refused to confirm the latest specifications that were leaked by the benchmark testing site.

"The only thing we can confirm is that [it] will be an awesome product."

According to CNET, OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei revealed that the OnePlus 3 is expected to launched at the end of the second quarter of this year. Pei declined to disclose any more details about the upcoming smartphone other than the fact that the new model will "captivate" users as much as its first flagship model, the 2014 OnePlus One, did. He also added that the phone will feature a "new design" implying it will depart from its predecessor, the OnePlus 2.

Furthermore, he said that the upcoming mobile will be arriving in the US and other markets as an unlocked smartphone and will be directly sold by OnePlus. OnePlus will ship the handsets free of cost and will also be accepting payments via credit card, rather than only PayPal payments.

The company now has reportedly come up with a "better buying process" for consumers, however, details of which were not disclosed.

That doesn't necessarily mean the company would be abandoning its system of selling phones which is by invitation only method. OnePlus currently relies on an invitation-only system to sell its devices rather than buy advertising on mainstream media, a system that has not been appreciated by people who have to wait long to get their hands on the phone.

Android Phones Must Have Older Than 4.0 To Fend Off Stagefright Hack

It's been widely reported this month that the Stagefright vulnerability on Android phones is back and with it, users are wondering how exposed their personal information is to hackers who would want to take advantage of the opportunity.

The security firm who alerted the public to the weakness in the Android operating system (OS) have said that they detected the issue with Android phones running anything older than a 4.0 version of the OS a.k.a Ice Cream Sandwich, which was first released in 2011.

Prior to this, the code names for older OS was Gingerbread and Froyo.

In March of 2015, Google announced they would no longer support Chrome updates for it and have since scaled back support.

Software upgrades are scheduled and spread out to different regions world wide, includes global hardware manufacturers who are making Android phones for Marshmallow OS. [Image by a Luca Mascaro via Flickr | CC BY 2.0]Around the same time a Gallup poll was published which stated that there was a split among smartphone consumers when it came to upgrading their phones, where they only did so when they felt they had to, such as when they encounter problems.

The poll shows that iPhone users upgrade more frequently than Android users, could provide a reason as to why the vulnerability is cause for concern.

Fifty-one percent of iPhone users say they upgrade every two years, while 47% say only when their phone stops working or becomes obsolete. In contrast, 58% of Android users say they will wait until their phone stops working, with 40% saying they upgrade when eligible.

For some time now the understanding casual consumers have of the Apple and Android phone market is that these rival companies put on product release events to show off the latest and greatest technologies each company's products have to offer.

As the consumer electronics source BGR says in their op-ed article about a reviewer's expectations for a new iPhone 7 — which based on the latest product release event of the new iPhone SE scheduled to be released on March 31 — they estimate will be out by fall; they wanted to correct the review by resetting that writer's expectations to say that the latest SE announcement, was more strategic than to show off new technologies in order to fill in the company's product line gaps of a four-inch smart phone.

The last generation was the iPhone 6S/6S Plus in October.

The article however continues to point out that many of the features for the new Apple products, might very well just be incorporating the same technologies that Android phones have already had for months.

Android phone reviews in the press.

Media attempts to review Android products, still making comparisons beyond the fact that consumers tolerate over affordability. [Image by Clive Darra via Flickr | CC BY-SA 2.0]Though both companies are trying to make money in the same market, they've fallen into a pattern of expectations where consumers consider them to either fail on the long or short-term based on the things such as glitches in software and/or patch schedules to test their tolerance for affordability.

The Verge recently referred to the bulk of new Android phone releases coming out in April where phone manufacturers are only now taking designing their products around Android Marshmallow OS released late last year, where they also say that these manufacturers can be expected to be behind schedule by six months.

Marshmallow has already been running on a few devices, but initially it was first released on select Android phones from the latest Nexus line, which the Inquisitr referred to in January.

The Android Authority has compiled brand manufacturers and other data around Android phone release updates, especially now that Marshmallow expands to more hardware worldwide.

In relation to the latest report from Engadget over news that Android phones were still susceptible to a new type of stage fright hack, Google had already announced and put in a security update.

"Android devices with a security patch level of October 1, 2015 or greater are protected because of a fix we released for this issue (CVE-2015-3864) last year. As always, we appreciate the security community's research efforts as they help further secure the Android ecosystem for everyone."

The Inquisitr also covered the Stagefright vulnerability when it was discovered last year.

To be clear the hack only discovered as a result of security company testing for the vulnerability of Android phone OS but there hasn't been any actual news that hackers have exploited the chance.

The video provided by Living Android demonstrates an app to detect the Stagefright vulnerability.

As it's been explained that a hacker could infect Android phones through a MMS notification, using the Stagefright multimedia libraries which doesn't even require a user to acknowledge notification, much less, do anything to get it by using their phone number.

On the seventh of March, the Israeli based security source uploaded a pdf file which explains the stagefright exploits for the Android phones, or for a video friendly explanation of the reason the modules are easy to take advantage of, you can refer to the video provided by TWIT Netcast Network.

Upcoming Android Smartphones 2016: Samsung Galaxy Note 6, Huawei P9, One Plus 3, Moto X 2016 And More

A slew of smartphones are expected to be launched this year. The Samsung Galaxy Note 6, OnePlus 3 and Moto X 2016 are some of the flagships that smartphone enthusiasts can look forward to in 2016.(Photo : Venture Beat)

We are in the third month of 2016 and so far a number of smartphone makers have launched their mobile phones. However, there are still many Android-powered handsets that will be unveiled this year.

Here are some of the handsets that will be launched in 2016.

    Samsung Galaxy Note 6

Samsung has already launched its first flagships of 2016 and the company's next flagship, the Galaxy Note 6, is expected to be launched in August or September this year.

The phablet may sport a 5.8-inch slim RGB AMOLED display with a QHD resolution of 2,560 x 1,440 pixels. Just like the Galaxy S7 and the Galaxy S7 edge, the upcoming Galaxy Note 6 may be available in two variants: one with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor and the other with an Exynos 8 chipset.

While 4 GB of RAM is expected to be the norm for flagship smartphones in 2016, the Galaxy Note 6 is believed to come with 6 GB of RAM.

Samsung is said to be working on improving the camera of the Galaxy Note 6. Rumors claim that the phablet may have a 12-megapixel primary camera with Super Optical Image Stabilization System, which will allow users to take quality images in low-light conditions.

A previous report suggests that Samsung has applied for a patent for the S Pen, which can double as a stand for smartphones in the Galaxy Note series. It will be interesting to see if the Galaxy Note 6 gets the S Pen, which will also act as a stand.

    Huawei P9

Huawei is scheduled to launch its next flagship, the Huawei P9, on April 6. The P9 will be the fifth smartphone in Huawei's P-series. The mobile device is speculated to come in four variants. As previously reported by Tech Times, there may be a standard 5.2-inch model, a budget- friendly variant dubbed P9 Lite, a beefed-up feature-rich version and a version with a bigger screen, which could be known as the P9 Max or P9 Plus.

If rumors are to be believed then the Huawei flagship will have a HiSilicon Kirin 950 octa-core processor for and Mali-T880 GPU. The standard version of the phone is said to have 3 GB of RAM, a display resolution of 1,080p and a 3,900 mAh battery. The premium version of the P9 may have 4 GB of RAM.

A leaked image of the Huawei P9 hints at a USB Type-C port for fast charging and data transfer. Rumors also reveal that the handset may be available in 32 GB, 64 GB and 128 GB internal storage options.

The smartphone is also said to boast two 12-megapixel sensors, which will bring better focus.

    OnePlus 3

OnePlus is a Chinese smartphone maker founded in 2013. The company's OnePlus One, which was unveiled in April 2014, was highly popular in the market as the device included high-end features but had a competitive price tag. The company launched the successor of the OnePlus One, the OnePlus 2, in July 2015 and now the company is said to working on a flagship for 2016 dubbed OnePlus 3.

The upcoming OnePlus 3 is rumored to tout a 5.5-inch Full HD screen, Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, 4 GB of RAM, 32 GB of internal memory, a 16-megapixel primary and an 8-megapixel selfie camera.

The Android 6.0 Marshmallow-powered handset is expected to be launched toward the end of Q2 2016.

    Moto X 2016

Lenovo completed the acquisition of Motorola Mobility in October 2014. In 2015, the company released a number of smartphones that cluttered the handset lineup and confused many customers. However, the company has confirmed that in 2016 it will launch only 15 phones.

The Lenovo Vibe phones will fill the entry- to mid-level market, while the Moto-branded mobile devices will only include top-end features.

Rumors on the Moto X 2016 are quite thin but speculations are rife that the device will have a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, a big camera sensor and a fingerprint scanner. Being a high-end phone, customers should also expect 4 GB of RAM, a higher battery capacity and Android 6.0 Marshmallow as the operating system.

An image of the Moto X 2016 has been leaked by Chinese website Wapvnet, which suggests that the phone will have a full-metal unibody design.

The Moto X 2016 is estimated to be launched in mid-2016.

    BlackBerry's Next Android Phone

BlackBerry launched its first Android smartphone, the BlackBerry Priv, in September 2015. The Canadian company's decision to launch an Android phone was well welcomed in the smartphone space.

BlackBerry has not revealed its plans to launch another Android-based phone; however, given the success of the BlackBerry Priv, it is highly likely that BlackBerry enthusiasts will possibly see another Android-powered BlackBerry handset this year.

The next Android-based BlackBerry smartphone may launch and release toward the end of this year.

A Smartphone Gun Is the Last Thing We Need

The gun can hold two bullets in two barrels. "With the Ideal Conceal pistol you can be quick on the draw stopping a threat effectively and immediately", it added. "In its locked position it will be virtually undetectable because it hides in plain sight".

Nonetheless, the idea of people walking around with firearms disguised as smartphones has law enforcement officials anxious.

For many people, smartphones have become an everyday essential that is carried around with them everywhere.

"There are countless stories of children playing with toy guns who were shot, because it was mistaken for the real thing", he told the Daily Mail.

If you've got a green card, you could get your hands on a handgun which is lightweight, ergonomic and durable and looks just like an iPhone. When it is closed, the trigger and trigger guard are completed covered by the grip, which gives the appearance of a smartphone packed inside a case.

As soon as you turn the safety off, the grip swings open and the "smartphone" transforms into a fully loaded weapon.

Bill Johnson, executive director and general counsel for the National Association of Police Organizations, told CNN Money: "In general, the concept of any kind of weapon that's disguised, so that it's not apparent that it's a weapon, would be cause for concern". The creator of the smartphone-styled handgun, Kirk Kjellberg, believes the the pistol will be available by mid-2016 and has set a $395 MSRP for the weapon.

Similar to the size and shape of a smartphone, the folded Ideal Conceal can be easily slipped into a trousers pocket or purse when not in use. A visa application to Canada just takes a few months. Assuming all interested parties purchase at least one pistol, that would generate almost one million in sales for the company in 2016.

While the idea is to promote self-defense while concealing the weapon, anyone carrying the handgun will need to check state and local laws related to concealed carry regulations.

HTC 10 Flagship Marshmallow Smartphone Leaked Ahead Of Global Debut

The HTC One M7 was arguably one of the best phones in its class, when people were enamored with the all metal design. Hemmerstoffer struck first with a trio of pictures, showing a black version of the device with some identifying information blurred out.

While we can't say for sure the HTC will go through with this rumored naming scheme, it is interesting that in a video HTC posted to YouTube on Wednesday, March 2, the company teased what it's calling the #powerof10.

After the prototype images were tweeted, @evleaks followed up with what appear to be official renders of the HTC 10 - this time in silver. Instead, HTC is opting to announce their new flagship later this month at an event that has yet to be formally announced.

HTC has been using its "One" branding for a few years now, but if these reports are true, the company is apparently looking to simplify. The teaser was released in HTC'S Turkish YouTube channel but do expect the see the smartphone this time. He re's another: It'll take advantage of the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, feature the same beefy 4GB of RAM and push graphics performance with an identical Adreno 530 GPU. However, there are speculations that an HTC One M10 Windows 10 Mobile edition will come out soon.

HTC One M10 will come with 12.3 Megapixel rear camera with LED flash and IR Blaster. The front-facing speakers of the One M9 have given way to two capacitive buttons that flank the home button (which also doubles as a fingerprint reader). What I really like is the way it looks as though the glass on the front curves towards the edges, just like the One A9. It runs on the latest Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow with the Sense 8.0 UI laid on top.

Galaxy S7 Could Be Our Most Popular Smartphone Yet Ć¢€” Samsung

The S7 devices improve upon the features of the S6 phone in a number of ways, including the new option for wireless charging, an always-on display and - in the case of the Edge 7 - a new dual-edge design, according to Samsung's specs. This evolution is also a testimony to our commitment to our consumers and to bring meaningful innovations that will enhance their smartphone experience not just in the present, but also in the future.

Tarek Sabbagh, head of IT and mobile division at Samsung Gulf Electronics said, "The Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge are very bold representations of our commitment to millions of people around the world who love our products and inspire our work".

More than 100,000 units of Samsung Electronics Co.'s latest Galaxy S7 series smartphones were sold in South Korea over the first two days of their official launch, industry data showed Sunday.

Now that the arrival of Samsung's new flagship devices, the Galaxy S7 and the S7 edge is nearly upon us, it's now time to decide whether to stick to your carrier or switch to another one that offers a better deal.

Specifically, YouTube user Jerome Ortega ran a performance test across various top devices, including the Moto X Pure Edition, the Nexus 6P, the Galaxy S7 edge, and the iPhone 6s Plus.

You can leave the device submerged in a meter and a half of water for upto 30 minutes. The company has increased the size of the pixels in its camera sensor, allowing the phone to take in more light. "Motion Panorama, a new camera mode, brings movement to traditional panoramic photos, giving the user a completely immersive visual experience".

Samsung Galaxy S7 has a 2560 X 1440 (534ppi) 5.1-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display while S7 Edge has a 2560 X 1440 (577ppi) 5.5-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED display. For graphics it has Mali-T880MP8 GPU. This is about 60 percent more powerful than the one in Galaxy S6. The Galaxy S7 edge comes with various edge panels which can be selected by simply tapping an icon. Let us know in the comments.

Switching phones at this moment is easy, when the Galaxy S7 edge is the other choice. It has dual sim card slots as well expandable storage slot.

Speaking of price, the 64 GB version of gold Galaxy S7 will set the buyers back by 2,097 pounds (about $2,977), whereas the gold Galaxy S7 Edge can be purchased for 2,297 pounds (roughly $3261).

Both the devices would go on sale from March 18, 2016 with a price tag of Rs. 48,900 and Rs.56,900 for 32GB variants.

OnePlus 3 Releasing On April 7

There are a lot of speculations and rumors about OnePlus's next flagship device OnePlus 3 's launch and specification.

Back in February, we heard that the OnePlus 3 would launch sometime in Q2 2016.

The benchmark also reveals the potential camera specs for the next phone out of OnePlus.

Details about the next flagship OnePlus smartphone have seemingly been leaked on a popular mobile benchmarking site.

OnePlus co-founder Carl Pei has claimed that the handset will feature a new design, and recently said that it will "captivate" users as the company's original handset did. The OnePlus 3 - with model number A3000 - will come with Qualcomm's latest and greatest Snapdragon 820 processor, which given the history of OnePlus flagship phones, isn't all that surprising. Further, the phone is seen running Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow-based OxygenOS which is the company's custom skin. The company has been introducing many changes to the markets as we know them to be, and is now looking forward towards introducing even more innovations to their devices.

It was earlier being said that the company will unveil the handset at an event (in China) on April 7.

The device, like numerous other modern day releases such as the Samsung Galaxy S7 and the LG G5, is expected to release with 4GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage space too. With a 16-megapixel main shooter and a solid-sounding 8-megapixel effort for selfies, the OnePlus 3 would certainly be able to mix it with the best in the business, though we'll have to wait for an official announcement for confirmation on these specs.

One of the biggest names to arrive in the modern day markets, and a name that has been doing really well, has been that of OnePlus.

HTC 10 Flagship Smartphone's New Teaser Touts 'New Boom'

HTC has already teased that its HTC 10 flagship will be announced on April 12 in a streaming launch on HTC.com, but recent reports indicate the device will be available for purchase just days after the official announcement.

There's nothing too subtle about this, with the repeated 10 (the supposed new name for the title) and that reference to boom. If we're to believe what a leaked image from earlier today is showing, the HTC 10 outperforms handsets like the Samsung Galaxy S7 and LG G5 (at least in one benchmark test), despite the fact that it's likely using the same Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor that's found inside its rivals. You'll hear it. #powerof10 pic.twitter.com/Ln3XxWZ9BO- HTC (@htc) March 23, 2016Just to recap, so far we have seen the chamfered design followed by the tweet, "World First, World Class, Front and Back. HTC's premium handsets have made a habit of including top notch front-facing speakers which pretty much blow away the competition for sound and clarity. But when will the new smartphone hit the market? Bringing together all the teasers and the speculations about the upcoming handset, it appears that it could probably be what the doctor ordered for the ailing company.

A new rumor from ePrice suggests the device will go on sale as soon as April 15th in its home country of Taiwan. Keep coming back for more updates, rumours and speculations on HTC 10.

Consumer Reports' top smartphone: Samsung's Galaxy S7

We've covered this camera comparison pretty extensively at this point, including a direct comparison of the Galaxy S6 edge to the Galaxy S7 edge and Galaxy S6 edge+ to the Galaxy S7 edge - both comparisons being the same as what we're looking at here. Samsung Galaxy Note 6 is speculated to cost less than Galaxy S7. These first major smartphone releases are just the beginning of the large increase in FM Chip enabled mobile phones becoming available in 2016.

As a result, the S7 is off to a good start, Wall Street analysts say, and they have been raising their shipment estimates.

    Why choose the Note 5?

Samsung Galaxy S5 and the HTC Desire 816 are the latest recipients of the Android Marshmallow. While the former Galaxy Note 5 was a huge disappointment, the Note 6 is expected to drive consumers with its insane features.

S Pen: This one is obvious. Rumors are also suggesting that Samsung may use a completely new processor for the smaller version of S7. The company hasn't made any official announcements about the new device, but rumors abound about its alleged features that are surely noteworthy. The screen, for example, has been bumped up from 5.1 inches to 5.5 inches, giving you more screen space to play with without things feeling too bulky thanks to the curved edge. And since you're paying for that feature: the S7 Edge is also a little more expensive than its S7 sibling, you might want to see more features there.

Why choose the S7 Edge over the Note 5?

Consumer Reports recently ended its review of the Galaxy S7 line and the results are spectacular.

Water resistance: I never use a treadmill and prefer to run outside all year long.

The regular Galaxy S7 is already water-resistant, so that can't be a key distinction for the Active version. Aside from their brilliant battery life scores, Samsung's flagship smartphones have also delivered well in terms of performance in most other areas.

Yibada noted that Android N is assumed to stand for Nutella.

And because you have cat videos to watch, Lee sped up the video to 80 times the normal speed for the duration of the 45-minute cycle. The width is quite noticeable and the S7 Edge seems to easily slip right into my front pocket. I do find the ability to add as much storage as you desire to be more compelling than the high price of internal storage.

It sports a 16-megapixel camera on the rear with f/1.9 aperture and Optical Image Stabilisation, autofocus and LED flash. The flagship device saw over 10 million units sold in China alone and the numbers keep growing. Well, that's the way I used to feel, at least, because the new Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge are both giant improvements over my three-generation-old S4 handset.

Samsung is believed to be hard at work on a foldable smartphone

Samsung is believed to be hard at work on a foldable smartphone, according to a new patent.

The South Korean technology firm recently unveiled its latest flagship smartphone, Galaxy S7 Edge, with a dual-curved display.

Samsung filed the patent – which shows a gadget unfolding to increase the size of the display – two weeks ago.

The gadget listed in the patent is comprised of a single large display that folds double, rather than two separate pieces on either side of the hinge.

A pair of magnetic connectors are used to keep the two halves of the flexible screen sealed firmly together.

If this patent is an indication of what Samsung has planned for its devices, it would mark a revolutionary new step in smartphone design.

This dramatic new look – and cutting-edge display technology – could also help Samsung combat the smartphone-fatigue that consumers are beginning to experience.

Gadget manufacturers are finding it harder and harder to wow shoppers – a problem that will only get more and more difficult over the next five years, Lei Jun, CEO of Xiaomi has predicted.

Folding over the display would allow Samsung to pack more screen real estate into a device with a smaller footprint.

Samsung's own Galaxy S7 Edge takes up much less room in the pocket than less-curvaceous smartphones with the same 5.5inch display, including the Apple iPhone 6S Plus, or Sony Xperia Z5 Premium.

Consumer Reports' top smartphone: Samsung's Galaxy S7

Apart from the goodness of Marshmallow, this firmware update also brings in bug fixes, stability improvements and performance optimizations, SamMobile noted. The smartphone's camera is again found to be peerless, according to experts.

For several months, we've seen Android Marshmallow details tease owners of the Galaxy S5, the former flagship that launched back in April of 2014. The 5MP front shooter also comes with OIS along with IP68 water and dust resistance.

Consumer electronics maker, Samsung at the weekend raised the bar in the smart phone ecosystem as it redefined mobile experience with the introduction of most advanced smartphones in its stable, the Galaxy S7 Edge and S7 respectively. Yep, that's right, there's no USB Type-C here, presumably because Samsung wanted to ensure compatibility with the Gear VR.

However, output in the summer would not be completely absurd and others have tried before Samsung (eg LG had released its G2 late May and submitted its G3 in August). Why wouldn't they? We're approaching the end of March. Apple is known to prioritize brand loyalty and perception over specifications, but the company changed that with the iPhone SE.

This phone is very beasty in terms of speed.

While it may be too early to call this a demise, this does represent a shift in a philosophy that has been in constant flux since the iPhone 6 was launched.

Android Marshmallow also introduces a new type of security system within apps as well as the much-loved Google Now on Tap, which makes information relevant to the user's interests easier to access.

It is expected that the new flagship phablet would pack the most high-end Qualcomm Snapdragon or Samsung Exynos processor, Tech Times writes.

The Galaxy S7's new 12MP sensor (leading to larger 1.4-micron pixels) with a super fast f/1.7 lens is targeted at giving you great low-light photos, though the previous setup of a 16MP (1.12-micron pixels) sensor and f/1.9 lens was hardly a slouch in this regard - in fact, it was the victor of many camera comparisons. India is one of the biggest markets of Samsung outside the United States. The app doesn't seem to be compatible with other Samsung smartphones aside from the new Galaxy S7 series, but presumably, it will become available on other, future Samsung devices running Android 6.0 Marshmallow.

The company is providing the new product as a freebie for those pre-purchasing the Galaxy S7 smartphone in order to accelerate the popularization of VR devices and take the lead in the fledgling market. Yes, the phone is not very different from its predecessor, except for the always-on screen which I think is a good addition though not revolutionary in any way. It could also mean that a release for other US carriers could be coming soon.

Bigger battery: The S7 Edge has a slightly smaller display, but also a battery that is 600 mAh larger than the one in the Note 5. But this is the most extensive washing machine experiment of which we're.

When it comes to graphics, the Galaxy Tab S2 couldn't quite match the iPad mini 4's performance but it did come close. Following this, the builds will be tested by T-Mobile and eventually, it will be rolled out.

The S7 became available last week, on March 11. As it turns out the trimmed SIM card can fit onto the microSD card in such a way that the contacts for the memory card can be read at the same time the SIM is read in the dual-purpose slot. We can only find an interesting inference Based on this information. These include a new vibration pattern concept, advanced power saving mode, improvements to the fingerprint scanner functionality, Quick Connect, new TouchWiz UI with enhanced usability and minor visual tweaks. We don't know what took Sprint this long just to approve and release the update for the phone. With partial funding from NAB Labs, TagStation also developed the NextRadio hybrid radio smartphone app which uses TagStation cloud services to provide a rich FM radio listening experience on smartphones and tablets by combining the devices' built-in FM tuner and the internet.

Samsung is attempting to give extreme rivalry to Apple with astonishing camera quality, and for that they have been chipping away at the camera's execution in low light.

The devices also feature a "Dual Pixel" rear camera with large F1.7 aperture with Smart OIS. And having the camera lens protruding only slightly around 1mm means you can lay the phone flat on desks and prevent it wobbling while being pressed, unlike the latest iPhone.

The Tab S2 comes with Android Lollipop 5.0 pre-installed, and we expect to see an Android M update in the near future. Samsung has added some of its own features to the software, including the Pop-Up Window and Smart Manager features.
