Google Surprises Developers, Releases Android N Preview - What's New

Android N will also support picture-in-picture mode on devices like TVs, which means you will be able to connect your smartphone to your TV and play videos via apps optimised for Android N. The screen can be split horizontally or vertically as you prefer. Doze will run even when the screen is off but the device is in motion.

According to Gotta Be Mobile, Google unveiled the beta developer program for Android N months ahead of Google's I/O Developer event. Historically, Android tablets haven't been a great idea for people wanting to remain productive on the go, in part because it has been impossible to truly multitask between apps.

Launching as of today, the Android N preview will only be available for having a look through on Google's own Nexus devices, however, there are some notable introductions with this build that are worth noting.

Here are a few sneak peeks of what's new with Android N. One of the major features introduced in last year's Android Marshmallow was Doze, a smart battery-saving mode that helps reduce power consumption by curbing app use when asleep.

Interestingly, it is available as an over-the-air update and Google has made it easier as you just need to sign up at g.co/androidbeta starting today to get the update onto your Nexus device. Users can also schedule a time for night mode to switch on. Developers can set minimum dimensions for the screen size of the app, allowing it to shrink and be viewed alongside other content on the phone or tablet screen. N Android will be officially presented at the I / O conference in May. But there are actually a couple of different ways for getting ahold of Android N way before the official consumer release later this year.

Google's website also lists some new features in Android N that developers can test out. It also says that the official release will be this summer, which is a little early for the newest version of Android, as it usually arrives in the fall.

It's been indicated that Android N is going to be named following a favorite chocolate and hazelnut breakfast spread although the most recent variant hasn't been named.
