At present the cheapest smart-phone available in the market is for Rs 1500.
Ringing Bells said that the launch is in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision for "empowering India to the last person, transforming India's growth story".
The government's involvement in the making of the new Ringing Bells phone is reminiscent of Datawind's affordable Aakash tablet which was launched back in 2011. Shri Manohar Parrikkar, Union Minister of Defence, and Shri Murali Manohar Joshi, Hon'ble Member of Parliament, will unveil the device tomorrow with Ringing Bells.

Indian Smartphone manufacturer Ringing Bells has announced that the company will launch the cheapest smartphone in the world, Freedom 251, which will cost under Rs. 500 ($7) this week.
Unfortunately the specs of the Freedom 251 is unknown at this point in time, but presumably with a price tag like that, don't expect the specs of the phone to blow you away. Ltd., with enormous support from Make In India, Skill India programs and Digital India is well claimed to launch the Cheapest smartphone ever.
The handset, Freedom 251, has been endorsed by the Centre as part of the Make in India initiative. The project, before closing a year ago, further decreased the price of the device and it was being made available to students across the country at a price of under Rs. 2,500. It launched a smartphone at Rs. 2,999 only recently. It sports a 5-inch display, a 1.3GHz quad-core SoC, 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of inbuilt storage which can be expanded using a microSD card (32GB). For them, Ringing Bell's announcement of the under Rs. 500 smartphone comes as a bolt from the blue.
