The latest leaks on Xiaomi Mi 5 include a 27-second video and press renders of the smartphone, confirming rumors that this smartphone has the smallest fingerprint sensor.
The latest Mi5 video which is 27 second long was shared on Chinese social network Weibo. It opens with a snow white hue variant Xiaomi Mi 5 device placed in an elegant wooden dock. The user then swipes the device to open the Weibo app and that's about it. According to IBTimes report, the promo video confirms the rumors of the fingerprint sensor which is oval in shape and is present in place of home-screen button. The video, however, is too short to provide any details about the hardware specs of the device.
The press renders of the Mi 5, which were released on various websites too, present a similar phone. The smartphone will be available in white, gold, pink and black color variants according to a TechnoBuffalo report. The handset features a metal frame with chamfered edges and a USB Type-C connector at the bottom, flanked by a couple of antenna bands and fine-drilled speaker grilles. The photos also show an oval shaped fingerprint sensor embedded in home-screen button, reportedly the world's smallest fingerprint scanner. The Xiaomi Mi5 features 2.5D glass sheet on the front and 3D glass cover on the back panel as revealed by a source to GforGames.
Other hardware specifications of the Xiaomi Mi 5 include an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor with Adreno 530 GPU backed by 4GB LPDDR3 RAM. The smartphone will include a 5.2-inch QHD display along with 2.5D curved glass and 3D glass back panel. The phone will also feature a 16MP rear camera with dual-LED flash and 8MP front facing camera. The phone will come in two variants in terms of internal storage with 32GB and 64GB eMMC. Some rumors suggest the Mi 5 Plus phone with 64GB storage may include a 5.5-inch/5.7-inch display with 2K resolution. There will also be differentiations in the camera with the higher priced model to feature 20MP and 13 MP cameras for rear and front respectively. Mi 5 will run MIUI v7.0 OS based on Android 6.0 Marshmallow and powered by 3600mAh battery with Quick Charge technology.
Xiaomi Mi 5 is expected to launch in early 2016 and possibly be priced at 1,999 yuan (US$ 308) for the Mi 5 base model and 2,299 yuan (US$ 354) for the Mi 5 Plus model.
