This life pro tip to magnify your smartphone screen has gone viral – but will you fall for it?

LIFE HACK

The internet is full of hacks to make your life simpler but you might live to regret trying this one out

CLUELESS smartphone users have been advised to leave their phone in a glass of water to magnify their screen.

This "life pro tip" has gone viral, but it seems few are falling for it.

Don't try this one at home, folks

Plenty of the latest devices claim to be water resistant – but sticking one in a glass full of water to get maximum screen size to watch Netflix is a recipe for disaster.

The picture re-surfaced this morning and has been shared commented on tens of thousands of times.

Several are playing along, with one user commenting: "Worked great, thanks! I got curious and tried it in a glass of vodka as well and it looks like you get a little more zoom because of the alcohol."

Another added: "Works great on iPhones with Apple's new waterproofing technology you get with the new iOS firmware update."

It follows several hilarious smartphone "hacks" in which naive smartphone users destroyed their pricey gadgets.

iPHONE 8 RUMOURS All the latest gossip about the next iPhone - and when you can get your hands on one

In one case, iPhone 7 fans were advised on how to add a headphone jack so they didn't have to pay for expensive wireless earphones.

A YouTube video provided a step-by-step guide to drilling a hole in the handset and if the comments were anything to go by, several fell for it.

Victim David Iriarte wrote: "A friend of mine told me it worked for him, but my iPhone won't turn on after I drilled the hole for the jack.

"I checked and it was the 3.5mm drill, so I made no mistake there! What happened? Any of you have the same problem?"

Another rumour that iPhones could charge when warmed up in the microwave had similarly catastrophic results.
