Vivo Xplay 6 vs HTC U Ultra: great performance and great selfie camera from these two flagships

The first you will notice about the Xplay 6 is the peculiar screen size of 5.46 inches. The curved screen adds some points to its aesthetics, along with the usual metal body and fingerprint sensor.

In terms of performance, there's plenty to it with the Snapdragon 820 chipset paired with a strong Kryo quad-core processor, great graphics and 6GB RAM.

One of the Xplay 6 strong points has to be its dual 12MP-5MP primary camera,  a top-of-the-line camera that is close to DSLR level. Sporting Sony's latest IMX362 sensor ensures great quality photos. Say goodbye to shaky photos as the 4-axis Optical Image Stabilization ensures steady pictures. It also lets you shoot in the dark but still able to capture great shots. Even on the selfie camera department, the 16MP selfie camera makes for a great companion for you to take great selfies.

Storage-wise, you should find plenty of it available with its 128GB internal storage. Be advised, as there's no microSD expansion s lot. You can still make do with cloud storage and a USB on-the-go for additional storage.

With a 4080 mAh battery supplying juice to it, X Play 6 will be able to power up the smartphone for at least a day or two in between charging.

Last but not least, it seems that it will get stuck on Android Marshmallow 6.0.1. It's not likely that you will get an update to the latest Nougat 7.0.

With that out of the way, come let's see what U Ultra is all about. It is all about bringing you all the ultra-experience that you are looking for in a smartphone.

Notice its ultra specs below:

  • 5.7-inch Quad HD Super LCD5 capacitive touchscreen with 1440 x 2560 pixels or ~513 ppi pixel density
  • Metal and Glass body
  • Gorilla Glass 5/Sapphire Crystal Glass protection
  • Fingerprint sensor
  • Qualcomm MSM8996 Snapdragon 821 chipset, Quad-core (2x2.15 GHz Kryo & 2x1.6 GHz Kryo) processor, Adreno 530 graphics and 4GB RAM
  • 12MP primary camera with f/1.8 aperture, 26mm, OIS, laser & phase detection autofocus, dual-LED (dual tone) flash
  • 16MP secondary camera with 1080p and Auto-HDR
  • 64GB internal storage + microSD expansion slot up to 256GB maximum
  • Non-removable Li-Ion 3000 mAh battery with Fast battery charging
  • Android Nougat 7.0
  • Dual-sim and 4G LTE
  • March 2017 release date
  • $749 USD price tag
  • With an expected release date in March 2017, U Ultra will be sporting a 5.7-inch Quad HD Super LCD5 screen, that is set to provide you with a great visual experience. Not only that, but it also introduces a second screen which gives you the information you need, at your fingertips. The big screen is great for your regular day to day activity, while the new second screen is perfect for fast, convenient access to the things you use the most - like your top contacts, app shortcuts, event notifications and more. You won't miss out on all the important things in life.

U Ultra also introduces a new, beautifully contoured, liquid surface that is designed to reflect the best form. Hold it up, and you will appreciate the phone's symmetrical construction and the way it transforms light as you turn it around. To achieve this extraordinary look, HTC developed an entirely new process where colours bond to the glass in multiple layers to reflect light beautifully - adding brilliance and depth from every angle. The glass is then moulded evenly around the sides and edges, using extreme pressure and heat to mimic the natural surface tension of liquid; folding and bending the surface to create a perfect blend of metal and glass.

Regarding performance, nothing short of ultra here as well. With a Snapdragon 821 chipset, a fast quad-core Kryo chipset, great graphics and 4GB RAM; there's nothing that this smartphone can run without any hiccups.

Camera-wise, the U Ultra might not have a dual camera setup. But it will be sporting a great camera that builds on HTC 10 which was awarded an industry leading DxOMark score of 88, and further improved. You will able to capture great photos with less blur, super-fast laser focus and new Phase Detection Auto Focus (PDAF) to catch every moment. You also get bigger pixels for better photos at night, because good things can happen in the dark.

A good amount of 64GB internal storage is available, which you can easily expand it up to a maximum of 256GB via its microSD slot.

We find that the U Ultra might face an issue with battery life as it only comes with a rather limited 3000 mAh battery. If you are a heavy user, it is best to bring along a power bank just in case you run out of battery in the middle of the day

Finally, good news is in store for the U Ultra with the latest Android Nougat 7.0 OS set to accompany its release. This means that you will be getting all the latest features and functions, right out of the box which you can immediately tap into.

    Conclusion:

Vivo Xplay 6 looks great with the combination of a metal body and curved screen. Not only that, you can expect great performance, with the amazing dual camera coupled with a great selfie camera and a large battery makes for a really interesting combination. It is also $90 USD cheaper, which makes for a more affordable smartphone.

Vivo Xplay 6 had just been released in December for a $655 USD price tag. It is available in Gold and Rose Gold colour.

HTC U Ultra is for those who prefer a larger screen size with its amazing 5.7-inch Quad HD Super LCD5 screen. On top of that, it will have a better performance, an expansion slot and the latest Android Nougat 7.0 OS. But all this comes at a price.

HTC U Play is already available for pre-order for $749 USD and is said to be released in March 2017. You can choose from Brilliant Black, Cosmetic Pink, Ice White and Sapphire Blue colours.
