Samsung considers LG Chem batteries for new phones

According to a report in the Korea Herald, LG Chem, LG's battery-making arm, is in contention to manufacture batteries for Samsung's upcoming flagship phones.

There's never really been any shortage of news involving combusting lithium-ion batteries, but the whole Galaxy Note 7 situation has taken things to a whole new level.

As you may recall, when word of Note 7 explosions first began to spread, Samsung engineers initially believed the problem was with faulty batteries from Samsung SDI.

South Korean tech giant Samsung has a lot to prove when they release the new Samsung Galaxy S8.

The move comes just weeks after the company announced it would cease production of its flagship Note7 following reports of the devices catching fire, with some even spontaneously exploding, due to a battery fault.

However, there are other rumors claiming that Samsung could still present a new installment in the Galaxy Note product line.

For other specs, we expect the next-generation Galaxy Note phone will offer faster processor, bigger RAM and better camera features.

If you know your Korean tech space fairly well, Samsung and LG nearly never see eye-to-eye.

Apple unveiled its latest smartphone model iPhone 7 in South Korea on October 21, attracting huge popularity here in the absence of Samsung's Galaxy Note 7.

Speaking on the the Galaxy Note 7, he confirmed that the company would refund consumers who bought the Galaxy Note 7 smart phones outside the country.

As of writing, fans of the South Korean brand should not expect any updates about the Samsung Galaxy S8.

It quotes a Samsung executive as saying, "We are looking at diverse suppliers, including LG Chem". But considering at least six months of development period, it was unlikely for LG batteries to be used in the Note phones at the time.
