Now you can use Netflix's speed test on your smartphone
Back in May, Netflix launched FAST.com, its own branded web speed test, an alternative to other tests like Ookla's SpeedTest.net. The idea behind it was to give you the accurate test across multiple services. Now, the company just released a dedicated app for the tool on iOS and Android, which is identical to the website. Launching as an app is a great idea to get more people to use this service, as some people have to launch FAST.com on a regular basis to test their dodgy internet.
You may think why you should pick FAST.com over other services. The answer is quite simple. Most of the internet service providers are well aware of specific testing sites, so they can adjust their network to perform better on those particular tests. It could create results that are bloated beyond what you usually get in day-to-day use.
On the other hand, Fast test your internet speed to Netflix's server, for which some internet service provider may well optimize. However, it is still going to be useful to a lot of people. The company also hopes that FAST.com could be a new standard of speed testing.
The app is currently available on iOS and Android and you don't even have to be a Netflix subscriber for that.
