Your old smartphone can be a baby monitor

BENGALURU: Repair Café Bengaluru will be organising a 'Do It Yourself' (DIY) workshop called 'Phone-izmo' today, to re-purpose old smartphones. Old smartphones can be converted into several other devices such as a wireless CCTV camera, offline GPS navigator or a baby monitor and other smart gizmos.

Repair Cafe is a community of repair experts and enthusiasts. Repair Café Bengaluru is an environmental sustainability campaign which calls for community gatherings where repairers, volunteers and visitors come together for promoting the cause of repair. It is a philosophy which ends with diversion of substantial waste from landfills.

They are expecting a group of people not more than 10 and have achieved the target already, going by the RSVPs. Repair Café Bengaluru will provide a platform for various individuals from different quarters to showcase their talent in converting old electronic gadgets particularly smartphones to other useful devices. The best performer will be awarded with a gift.

Purna Sarkar, organiser of The Repair Cafe Bengaluru, said: "We have been running a sustainable campaign to encourage repair of used household and electronic gadgets. We are getting together for 'Phone-izmo' to exchange ideas and refer the existing literatures."

The workshop will be conducted at Icarus Design, Rogers Road, Richard's Town at 10 am.
