Sacramento Police release sketch of sexual assault suspect

Sacramento Police are looking for a sexual assault suspect who reportedly stole his victim's cell phone, then assaulted her.

The incident began unfolding at 12:03 a.m. Saturday when officers responded to the 4900 block of Mack Road regarding a robbery. Officers encountered a female victim with non-life-threatening injuries, and they confirmed that she had been sexually assaulted, according to a department news release.

A preliminary investigation determined that the victim had been walking through an apartment complex when the male suspect approached from behind, armed with a knife. After stealing her cell phone and assaulting her, police said, the suspect fled on foot.

Sacramento Police are asking for the community's help in identifying and locating the suspect and have released a composite sketch, based on the victim's account.

The suspect is described as a black male in his 20s, 5 feet 8 to 5 feet 9 inches tall, with a skinny build. He wore a black baseball cap with red horizontal stripes, black T-shirt, black pea-coat style jacket and black pants.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the dispatch center at (916) 264-5471 or Crime Alert at (916) 443-HELP (4357). Witnesses can also submit an anonymous tip using the free "P3 Tips" smartphone app. Callers can remain anonymous and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000.
