Apple Loses Top Spot to Samsung in US Smartphone Market

According to the research firm, Samsung accounted for 28.8 percent smartphone sales in the month of March compared to 23 percent market share of Apple which followed second. LG took third with 17.1 percent, ZTE fourth on 6.6 percent, and Alcatel with 4.5 percent. The Korean firm lost the title almost a year ago when the USA firm released the big-screen iPhone 6 and 6 Plus. It added that strong demand for the latest Samsung Galaxy S7 helped Samsung regain the top spot in the U.S. market.

Ok, these are just March sales, Apple launched its new iPhone SE in late March; so, before Samsung starts to celebrate it is worth noting that April sales will probably be more accurate depiction of the current state of smartphone industry because iPhone SE had a pretty good launch, and its sales will get back a part of the market cake Apple lost during March.

And yet, while Samsung sells more phones, Apple remains the king in extracting profit from the smartphone market -which after all, is what really matters the most. "For a limited time, if you walk into your local Costco and activate a Galaxy S7 on Verizon, AT&T, or T-Mobile with a device payment plan, you will also walk out with a Samsung-made 32" HD television.

Samsung's two flagship handsets have been critically acclaimed, and the initial sales were so high that they helped boost Samsung's first-quarter earnings, which had been slowly declining. The South Korean company's lead was also credited to slow sales of the new iPhone 6s.

The momentum for the second calendar quarter was already with Samsung, and it is becoming stronger. This device might have to compete with the iPhone 7 Plus, it seems now. And the good news is that this deal will run for nearly all of May, so you've got some time to get to a Costco and take advantage of the offer.
