Start-up Sirin targeting executives with new high-end smartphone

Sirin Labs' secure smartphone will be powered by Android and will carry advanced technology that will be three years ahead of the commercial market.

Sirin Labs is gearing up to become a new contender in the smartphone space thanks to $72 million in investment and the launch of a high-end mobile device focused on security.

The idea for the start-up came about after Rakishev's phone was hacked in 2013.

The company will attempt to convince the super-rich of Mayfair to pay £10,000 for a mobile phone when it sets up shop in London in May. Rakishev had previously invested with Hogeg, joining star-studded list of backers for mobile image and video sharing site Mobli that attracted backers like Serena Williams, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Carlos Slim. Politicians and business tycoons will be interested in a highly secure smartphone.

But even with its chunky price tag, it will not be the most expensive smartphone ever. He compared the company to Tesla motors, adding that Musk's auto company started with high-priced vehicles, but today their prices are much lower.
