New York primary 2016 election: polls suggest Hillary leading Democratic primary in NY

New York Primary 2016 elections are merely days away. The contest in New York wouldn't have been of much significance has the nomination fight not become so close.

While Ted Cruz is giving sleepless nights to billionaire real estate baron Donald Trump, 74-year old Socialist Democrat Bernie Sanders is winning one primary after the other. He may not be close to bagging nomination at the moment, nonetheless he has won seven out of the last eight Democratic primaries and caucuses.

Polls for 2016 presidential election: Republican, Democratic contenders prepare for New York primary 2016

According to latest polls, Republican front runner Donald Trump enjoys massive lead over his rivals in New York Republican primary. He leads Ohio Gov. John Kasich and Texas Sen. Donald Trump.

HillaryClintonThe same seems to be true about the democratic front runner Hillary Clinton who enjoys double digit lead over her only rival Bernie Sanders in New York's primary. The survey conducted by Monmouth University, found Clinton at 51 percent in the state, compared with 39 percent who support Sanders. Nine percent of likely Democratic voters said they're still undecided.

Hillary Clinton's lead in New York is due to her influence over African American voters. The poll says that the two Democratic hopefuls are effectively tied among white voters, with Sanders taking 48 percent and Clinton taking 46 percent. But among minority voters, including African Americans and Latinos, Clinton has a big lead: 62 percent to 22 percent.

Despite the fact that she represented the state for eight years in the Senate, the survey found that only about a third of Democratic voters consider her a bona fide New Yorker.

To be true, this is not the only poll that predicts a double digit lead for former secretary of state. A CBS News Battleground Tracker poll released last week found Clinton leading by 10 points, 53 percent to 43 percent; one from Fox News released Sunday had her up 16 points over Sanders. On the other hand Sanders has said he is sure of doing well in New York and other primaries set to be held in coming weeks.
