Huawei says it's not just a matter of exclusively the dual-lens technology but that the phones' dedicated depth measurement chip as well as something Huawei calls its "hybrid-focus technology that will providing consumers something special when they pull out their phones to capture a shot".
The Huawei P9 takes advantage of Huawei's new partnership with Leica, as the P9's dual rear cameras were co-engineered with the well-known camera company. Instead, the second camera on the P9 captures detailed picture information in monochrome, whereas the primary RGB camera focuses on retaining color information. And, sometimes, they team up with a household name in the field when they really want to woo potential buyers.
Both cameras are 12 megapixels-you can see them clearly in the embedded tweet above-but only one of them is a traditional color sensor like you'd find on most other smartphone cameras.
The Huawei P9 is equipped with two 12-megapixel rear-facing, Leica-branded cameras with laser autofocus.
"The P9 users can now capture images with unmatched clarity, richness and authenticity, with a masterfully designed and powerful smartphone that looks and feels incredible".
The Leica camera, with a SUMMARIT H 1:2.2/27 lens (f/2.2 aperture, 27mm focal length), will deliver far more enhanced photography with the high-end lenses from one of the world's foremost high-end camera manufacturers.
The chipset is a Kirin 955 chipset which is an even modern version of the Kirin 950 used in Huawei Mate 8. The screen is 5.5 inch with 1080p resolution.
Huawei P9 has been one of the most awaited devices this year, as the specs of this device were rumored to be stunning; and it does pack in nearly all the features and components that were expected.
Huawei offers the P9 Plus with 4GB of RAM and 64GB of storage, while the 5.2 inch P9 smartphone is available in either 4GB/64GB or 3GB/32GB configurations. The fastest of those eight cores are clocked at 2.5GHz. Finally, the battery on the P9 Plus is slightly bigger: 3,400mAh versus P9's 3,000mAh. There are no estimates offered, however.
Running on the latest version of Android, Marshmallow 6.0, both devices use the company's standard OS Emotion, which bears some similarities to iOS regarding its design. The company says that it's going to release the new handsets on April 16th in several markets across Europe and the Middle East with prices starting at €599. We'll know more about how all this works in practice when we test the new phones, but, for now, Huawei's approach sounds pretty fresh. The 32GB P9 variant will be available for £449 and the larger P9 Plus with 64GB of storage will retail for £549.
Tom Cruise looks anxious on set of Mummy rebootThankfully we won't have to wait too long - in archaeological terms anyway - as The Mummy is slated to hit theaters June 9, 2017.
