Blackberry, who once pioneered the Smartphone industry and now struggling to survive has come up with a plan to launch Android based budget smartphones with feature like physical keyboard and touchscreen.
CEO John Chen of BlackBerry on Friday established its ideas to start two fresh Android-powered smartphones this season, though the Previous Android smartphone was simply released by it at 2015's end. It will also have sub-$500 pricing and it will look very similar to the Z30.
Further, the 60-year-old CEO also revealed that the new Android devices would not be high-end phones and will be made available to the customers at a minimal price.
Blackberry sold 600,000 devices during the period, missing Wall Street targets and failing to convince analysts that it will reach its goal of three million handset sales in 2016.
Chen said as much to The National, calling the Priv "too high end" and adding that launching into the Android market at the top end was "probably not as wise as it might have been".
One of the two smartphones will sport a keypad like the traditional BlackBerry devices, and the other would be a complete touchscreen. "A lot of enterprise customers have said to us that they wanted to buy the Blackberry phone but $700 was a little too unreasonable for them".
The company has always been known for its handsets' security features, and they are probably the only reason why a lot of people still cling to their BlackBerry phones. The organization may again push its safe-enough-for-business market like a marketing stage for its handsets hinting at a cost around $400.
As for the BlackBerry's proprietary mobile operating system BB10, Chen said that they will continue to send out software updates, but they have no plans to release a new phone running the OS.
