Samsung's Galaxy S7 smartphones set sail in S. Korea

SAMSUNG HAS ANNOUNCED "record" pre-orders for the Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge, boasting that sales so far have been 2.5 times higher than those seen for its previous smartphone releases. And, through March 18, you can get the Galaxy S7 on a qualifying plan and score a Gear VR powered by Oculus, a 6-game bundle and - only at T-Mobile - a full year of Netflix.

As Samsung's Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 Edge smartphones go on sale on March 11, AT&T and T-Mobile are offering buy-one-get-one-free deals on the handsets to new and existing customers who add a new line of service. The new phone has advanced cameras for high-quality images.

Some analysts have said such schemes will be necessary for Samsung and other phone makers to counter slowing global market growth by coaxing consumers to replace their handsets more quickly.

Galaxy S7 features a 5.1-inch flat Super AMOLED screen with Quad HD resolution and a 3,000 mAh battery, while Galaxy S7 Edge comes with 3,600 mAh battery and a 5.5-inch Quad HD Super AMOLED screen bent over the edges of the phone.

The Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge offer camera improvements too.

Users can also charge it wirelessly.

The new flagship Galaxy smartphones come with 4GB RAM (LPDDR4) and will be available in 32GB internal storage options.

The camera on the Galaxy S7 also provides a better focus.

Watch the clip below for more details on the improvements brought by Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge. The smartphone runs on Android 6.0 (Marshmallow) operating system.

Both devices feature a new dust-resistant design as well as a new waterproof design that ensures they keep running even after half an hour under water, according to Samsung.

Koh made the claim at a press briefing in South Korea last night, however no concrete figures were disclosed, and there's no way of knowing yet what Samsung's sales targets for the devices are. Many theories sprung up as to why that could be the case, especially with Verizon being a partner of Google's Android Pay, which is in direct competition with services like Samsung Pay and Apple Pay.
