LG seems to have its hands busy with its new "toy" and doesn't have more energy to build another Nexus handset, at least for a while.

Is that the reason the device, which is sort of a "Plus" model to the Nexus 5 in 2014, is being ditched for the this year? Instead, the company plans to focus on its own brand, likely putting its efforts on promoting the newly unveiled LG G5.

Speaking at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2016 in Barcelona, LG explains that it wants to focus on its own products for the time being, and it has no plans for a new Nexus. Moreover, Google sells Nexus devices without much of a profit margin, so there's no financial incentive for LG to make a phone this year either.

While the affordable Nexus 5 was a hit with hardcore Android fans, it's unclear how the Nexus 5X performed, especially since it came out at the same time as the bigger, more expensive Nexus 6P phone from Huawei. He also revealed that the Nexus program requires resources that could be used on LG phones. The company has been happy with its relationship with Google so far, it said. The Taiwanese company in collaboration with Google is expected to unveil two Nexus-branded smartphones this year.

The statements from LG contrast heavily with another recent Nexus partner.

In addition, LG will release a second smartwatch in the second half, although he wouldn't provide details. LG has confirmed that the segment below the display can be removed, and replaced with a module.
