Sharp has a new smartphone called the RoboHon (also stylized "RoBoHoN"), and this device is apparently the first-ever robot smartphone, being able to work as both distinct devices as its main selling point.
According to Sharp, the RoboHon can take calls, show maps and project photos, and like a cute little robot, it can also dance. It's a robot that comes with smartphone features, pretty much, and while its 2-inch display is tiny compared to what you'd expect from a traditional smartphone, Sharp has to be commended for its originality.
Talking about specifications and smartphone features, the RoboHon may be a bit lacking. Aside from the 2-inch screen, it has a low-quality camera, and it has 4G LTE support, which is commonplace even on lower-end smartphones. The 2-inch display has space for just four icons, and according to Engadget, that shouldn't matter much as users are supposed to talk to RoboHon, instead of operate it using its touchscreen. Indeed, the display is a secondary interface used to confirm actions, and also to take calls. It also runs on Android, but with a special user experience on top of it. All told, Sharp has intended this cute device quite interestingly as a smartphone for older users.
RoboHon may look like a toy robot, but this device, as it seems, is quite serious. More detailed specs have yet to be announced, same with pricing, but we do know that it should hit stores sometime in the first half of 2016 as a unique device designed to make smartphone use much easier for the elderly.
